Daniel J. Hess is the Founding Partner of Hess Injury Law. He grew up in Walla Walla, Washington and graduated from Walla Walla High School (WA-HI) in 1968. After WA-HI, Dan went to college at Seattle Pacific College, graduating with honors in 1972 with a B.A. in Chemistry.
At Seattle Pacific, Dan met his wife Kathie. Dan and Kathie have three adult children – Jennifer, Peter (Dan’s partner at Hess Injury Law), and Jamie. Kathie recently retired from years of service at the firm, but she can still be found at the office quite often.
After graduating from Seattle Pacific, Dan earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology at the University of Miami in 1974. He then worked as the Director of Residential Programs at Shangri-La Corp., a facility for the mentally handicapped, before enrolling at Willamette University College of Law. Dan graduated from Willamette cum laude (in the top 10% of his class) in 1981.
While at Willamette, Dan worked as a Law Clerk for Dye & Olsen in Salem, Oregon and William M. Tugman, Attorney at Law, in Walla Walla, Washington. Dan joined Mr. Tugman after graduation from law school and they formed the partnership of Tugman & Hess in Walla Walla.
After his stint at Tugman & Hess, Dan joined the Walla Walla law firm of Minnick-Hayner, Attorneys at Law, PS, as a partner. He focused his practice primarily on representing injured people. In 1998, Dan founded Hess Injury Law – focusing exclusively on injury claims against insurance companies and their lawyers. His son, Peter, joined the firm in 2007 and became his partner in 2012. Dan is admitted to practice law in Washington and Oregon.
Dan has dedicated his life to the well-being of others both professionally and as a volunteer.
